REASON OF BEING
was created by Michael Garcia, a musician, animator and a multi media student.
I was a part-time student studying animation in the Bay Area. My dream was to work as an animator either in game or film industry. But due to high cost of gasoline, work and 45mins commute to school, one way, twice a week; stress started to get onto me.
I decided to purchase a condo near my school to reduce my commute hours. It was quite easy to purchase a property a couple of years ago due to the "no money down" program. I got hooked! It was like a dream come true owning a property but with a feel of renting an apartment. I only need to worry about my monthly payments. With the help of my family, owning a property became a reality. I was blessed enough to have something to pay for my mortgage for 16 months. Thinking that real estate is "always" a good investment (yah right), I gambled, hoping that my property will generate enough equity to pay the mortgage until I finish my studies. I was thinking that I have nothing to loose. It will reduce my stress and I'll have a property to gain. With my luck, I bought my property in its peak and in a couple of months all went straight down to drain along with our deflating economy. I was losing and running out of money fast. Afraid of losing my property and the money I invested in it; it was extremely hard for me to sleep at night and concentrate at work and in school. It forced me to give up either work or school. Since I have a big mortgage that I have to worry about, work was the obvious choice for me. Becoming an animator or a musician will have to wait.
I was thinking to start a business hoping to raise some money but I have no capital to invest. Bank loans were starting to dance at the back of my head but I have to ask for 100% financing. Getting further more financial debts was not what I have in mind. So I looked for other alternatives, something that revolves around my skills.
Growing up as a musician, I've always found it difficult to be a nobody. Just starting to form a band is hard enough, finding a paid gig? Don't even start. More often than not, they will tell you that it is not a paid gig, only for exposure. I once read in a posting that one musician said, "for free? Why don't I give away your food & drinks to people and tell them they are free and they are only for exposure." I felt his pain, which is also mine. So I started this Internet radio station solely for unsigned and independent artist across the globe, to give voice to unsigned and independent artists and at the same time, hoping to raise enough money to pay for my mortgage and save my condo.
At the time of this posting, I'm currently stuck at work as an office assistant, drop out of school and on the verge of losing my property.
